Oversized Sunglases - What do you think?

It is often that sunglasses trends last for about a decade. It was therefore to be expected that the eyewear spring/summer 2012 would go in the same direction as it did in 2011, meaning that oversized sunglasses will soon be back on everyone’s lovely eyes!

Oversized belong to a style of retro sunglasses which originally became popular in the 1970s. They remained popular throughout the 1980s and 1990s, covering celebrities’ faces when they wanted to evade the paparazzi or hide a bad hangover.

Regrettably, most of us do not share these practical difficulties. However, oversized sunglasses still provides two great advantages for us commoners:
  1.  The “star look”, rocked by Paris Hilton, Victoria Beckham and immortalized by Audrey Hepburn.
  2. Great sun protection that our skin will later thank us for.
As appealing as this look might be, there is a very thin line between chic and ridicule. To avoid looking alien-like, it is advised you pick your shades according to the shape of your face.

Even though oversized sunglasses can work on most shapes, it is advised that those with a round face opt for a smaller, more angular style than the traditionally round lens style of big sunglasses, whilst those with oval, square and heart-shaped faces will look chic in oversized black round lenses and frames.

Some of the biggest names this season:

Gucci

Chanel

Versace
You can also find some amazing ones at Burberry or Dior.

For a bit of fun, try other colours like blue frames with navy blue lenses. White frames with black lenses look amazing against a summer tan and offer a new twist on a popular style.
As expensive as some of these sunglasses are, they are a better investment than most other accessories, as they will not be out of style for at least another 5 years. However you might want to look around in small boutiques, especially along the coast of Spain, as they often offer great looking shades for a fraction of their usual price.

  1. The Versace shades look really cool. I like the fact that they are a lot more unusual looking than other brands.
